Will Dunne Stay At City?
June 13th 2008 19:19
Mark Hughes is confident that his recent appointment as manager of City, should inspire captain Richard Dunne to sign a new contract with the club. Although with a ton of interest from clubs like Tottenham, Portsmouth and Newcastle United, Manchester City should hope that he will stay on at the club. Dunne is the most important part of Manchester City’s defense, one of their game play shortcomings, if they lose Dunne, the whole defensive mechanic would have to be changed.
That’s the last thing Hughes wants to walk into I’d imagine. With his focus of late being more towards attack minded players, I’d wager Hughes would hate having to stop chasing big stars like Ronaldinho to save money for strengthening the back four.
Although if City can hold onto Dunne, and remain fairly stable at the back, City are primed to make a decent title run, with all the high profile transfers they’ve been linked to the likes of Ronaldinho, Berbatov, Peter Crouch and Andrey Arshavin. Although being linked to players, and acquiring them are two completely different things. But, one of those names signing for the club, and City have a whole different squad, given the attack mindset of the players, and the sometimes gun shy attitude of City.
It’s of note to mention that Manchester City will likely lose out on their attempt to acquire Ronaldinho, given that Scolari has been appointed at Chelsea, and Ronaldinho has supposedly been hitting up his Brazilian countryman to become a potential transfer target. After all, no one wins a bidding war against Chelsea, not with their unlimited funds.
