Where Will Lampard End Up?

Jose Mourinho, only days after being formally announced as the new manager of Italian club Inter Milan, has stated his interests in acquiring a few players from his old club Chelsea. Mourinho is apparently interested in stealing Lampard, Drogba and Essien, which given Inter’s depth already, would make for a very strong side next season. Especially with the “special one” at the helm.

Although as I’ve said before, Inter can expect more league success, but Jose is awful in Europe, so the Champions League should still be just out of touching distance for the Italian club.

Good thing Abramovich has all that cash to spend on new Chelsea players, as Drogba, Essien and Lampard have all made their desire to play under Mourinho’s management once again. But then, after every disappointing spell in recent years, Abramovich just spends a bunch of unnecessary money for new players, always instead of focusing on how those players are inspired and governed.

You can have the most statistically talented team in the world, but if you have the worst manager in the world, they will still fall short. Let us never forget just how bad a decision maker Avram Grant really was. The man who single-handedly squashed Chelsea’s chances at a Champions League title, by forcing Essien into a strictly defensive role, then playing Anelka way too late into the game and in the wrong position. Chelsea had the mid-field depth to probably squeeze out one more regular time goal, if Essien had been able to mark out Ronaldo in mid-field, instead of trying to chase him down in the final attacking third.

Chelsea are still struggling to find a new manager, probably because of Abramovich’s ever more controlling arm has been swooping over the club, overextending into all facets and decision making. After how Jose was treated, why would any reputable manager want to work under such scrutiny.
