Last night's eight Champions League games all had something in common; goals! Though, unfortunately for Zilina, some of the games saw the goals more equally spread than others! Marseille won 7-0 away against the minnows, the French clubs biggest ever European triumph. The other game in this group saw Chelsea, after a frustrating and lacklustre first half display, comfortably overcome Spartak Moscow 4-1. Defender Ivanovic scored two, making it more goals this week than his whole career up until this point. Strikers Drogba and Anelka were also on target.
Arsenal's fine form in the competition stuttered in Ukraine, throwing away a lead given to them by Theo Walcott, to lose 2-1. Former Gunners frontman Eduardo ironically scored the winner, and didn't celebrate. Braga moved into contention for qualification out of this group, with an impressive 1-0 in Partizan Belgrade. Bayern Munich took a huge step towards the last 16, winning 4-0 in Cluj, thanks mainly to a Mario Gomez hat trick. Roma moved into 2nd, with a gritty 3-2 win in Basel, in an entertaining game.
The match I built up most last night, was the meeting at the San Siro, between AC Milan and Real Madrid. Madrid dominated early on, and eventually took the lead before half time through Higuain. Super sub, and golden oldie, Fillipo Inzaghi, scored twice to put Milan on the verge of a very moral boosting victory, only for Pedro Leon to equalise in injury time. Full time result was 2-2. Ajax threw away a golden opportunity to move into 2nd in the group, losing 2-1 to Auxerre. That now puts the bottom three in the group, just 2 points apart from each other. As a result of last night's results, Real Madrid and Chelsea, are the first two names into the hat for the last 16.
