United Threaten Madrid
May 29th 2008 07:40
Manchester United are threatening Real Madrid with filing a complaint to FIFA, over Real’s continuing public pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Madrid side has yet to actually sit down and express a real offer to Manchester United for the Portuguese winger, and yet continues to tout themselves as having the money to bring Ronaldo to Spain. Taking things public like this is disgusting, instead of going through the proper channels, hopefully Real Madrid will be reported and reprimanded for resulting to such childish tactics.
As part of a bid to keep Ronaldo’s mind focused on Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson is set to fly out to the Euro 2008 and sit down with the mid-fielder to discuss his future at the club. Hopefully Ronaldo will listen, as he just isn’t done building up his career with United yet. Yes after such a brilliant season he deserves a raise, but Real Madrid has become the retirement village for former United stars, and Ronaldo has a bit of a ways left to go before he’s ready for that.
Also in FIFA news, Sepp Blatter is attempting to push through a new rule which would limit how many foreign players a domestic club could employ. The rule, which is being popularized now, is in response to recent dominance of England in the UEFA Champions League, and would be the worst decision for the sport should it be set into motion. Part of what’s amazing in world football is seeing the teams shift, and players from all around the globe coming together to form one like-minded team. If you limit foreign influence, you start to limit the combinations and tangents the sport can take. Sepp Blatter is just jealous that not every club has infinite funds for new players, so he’s trying to take a notch out of the clubs that do.
You shouldn’t be punished for being successful.
