The Saviour For Manchester United

After having fallen asleep in the first fifteen of the FA Cup Final over the weekend, it’s time to look forward to much bigger and better things. Of course I’m talking about the Champions League Final, the first ever all English affair, involving two of the biggest teams in the world right now, Chelsea and Manchester United. The people to watch, as history tells us, will not be the big names and common scorers, but the unsung heroes. Which is why my pick to enforce his presence on the game would be Michael Carrick.
And why is that? Because Carrick was there last year to begin the amazing scoring run against Roma, when United thrashed them 7-1. Carrick has also been there with his amazing technical skill in passing, to thread through balls to the forwards, making for easy scores. Not to mention no one has been a better replacement for David Beckham with Carrick’s ability to pass the long ball, and the void he fills for Roy Keane, whose former number Carrick bears, to slow down the action and command the flow from mid-field.
If Carrick starts, and can stamp his boot down on the action, United will have a good match. If he cannot and they lose the mid-field battle against a much deeper Chelsea side, Man U won’t have a chance. Although I believe Carrick can be the turning point, Ferguson almost has to start Owen Hargreaves, just because of pace and defensive ability, so that if Drogba decides to have a big day, Hargreaves will shut him down.
