This morning brought the sensational news, that Manchester City captain Carlos Tevez, has submitted a written transfer request to the club. The 26-year-old Argentinian striker, has been carrying his side at times this season, so it is not surprising that the club have rejected his request.
It has always been common knowledge that Tevez, has never been too comfortable living so far away from his family in Argentina. Ever since he joined West Ham just over four years ago, there have been reports of his imminent return to his home land. He also admitted before signing for City, that the next professional contract he signed, would be his last. Retirement before 30 has also been muted. But this is sure to be a huge blow to City, and their fans.
It seems that the relationship between the skipper, and manager Roberto Mancini, is almost at breaking point. It is now going to be very interesting to see how the player, and gaffer, react to this incredible development. Will Tevez keep giving his all for Manchester City? Or is his heart already set on the exit door?
While the player has now said his level of homesickness is at an all time high, Man City representatives have stated that they have been told the opposite. According to the club, Tevez and his high profile agent, Kia Joorabchian, have been pushing in recent months for his contract to be extended by another year.
Surely if Manchester City want to win the Premier League title this season, or even in the near future, they have to sort Tevez's future out. Jo and Roque Santa Cruz haven't proved that they can help this push to the top. Adebayor is out of favour with Mancini, while Mario Balotelli is still young, and settling into the English game.
I am intrigued to see what the next twist in this story will be. But if I were a Manchester City fan, I would be preying that Carlos Tevez is just calling the club's bluff. No player is bigger than any club, but at City this season, Tevez pretty much is the team!
