Last night's final instalment of Premier League action this weekend, saw the in-form Sunderland, host Everton. Since losing the Tyne-Wear derby 5-1 at Newcastle, Steve Bruce's men have gone on a fantastic run of form, culminating with that 3-0 win at Chelsea last weekend. For David Moyes' Everton, it has been a frustrating season so far, with no real consistency ultimately being the reason why they are currently languishing in the bottom half.
It was obvious straight away last night that both teams were at the Stadium of Light for three points. It is a mystery how the Toffee's ever improving left back Leighton Baines didn't make the England squad last week, and he provided an inch perfect cross after six minutes, for Tim Cahill to head the away side in front. On loan Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck has been getting better in recent weeks for Sunderland, and he netted an equaliser after 23 minutes.
It was the young Englishman who was on target again with twenty minutes to go, seemingly earning the Black Cats the win, which would moved them too 5th place. But Mikel Arteta had other ideas, making it 2-2 with five minutes to go. In the end, a draw was probably a fair result. Sunderland stay 7th, just eight points from top, while Everton climb two places to 14th.
