Ronaldo Finally Performs Well
June 12th 2008 18:08
Cristiano Ronaldo’s worth has grown on the International stage, after his performance in the Euro 2008 last night. The winger earned a goal and an assist in Portugal’s victory over a much improved Czech Republic side. An impressive victory, as the Czech’s always looked as though they could turn the score around in a moments notice, but the Portuguese held on to win 3-1 by the end.
This match really marks the first brilliant performance on the International stage for Ronaldo. As the mid-fielder is often misused by Portugal coach Scolari, not really given a freeform role as he is in Manchester United play. And let’s face it, Ronaldo is useless playing defensively, so forcing him to track back and attempt then fail at a tackle is just a waste of time and energy for him, when he should be focusing on the counter-attack.
The reason Ronaldo performed so well last night? Because apparently Scolari saw a match tape from Ronaldo’s time with Manchester United, and realized if you let Ronaldo drift around a bit, Ronaldo scores goals and sets them up brilliantly. Which is exactly what he did.
Speaking of Ronaldo, I’ve read, http://ukfootball.today.com, that FIFA is supposedly going to turn down Manchester United’s complaint about Real Madrid’s public pursuit of the player, which is outrageous. Given the short amount of time FIFA has spent considering such a deal, I can’t believe they would just outright turn down such a decision.
