Review of limited Premier League action

Given that the snow and ice across Britain has decimated this weekend's sporting action, there are only two Premier League matches to review. On Saturday lunchtime, Sunderland hosted Bolton, before Blackburn Rovers took on West Ham United, in the only 3pm game.
The wearsiders leapt above Bolton into 6th place, after beating them 1-0 at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland are becoming somewhat 1-0 specialists this season, which has been instrumental in their quiet climb up the table. They started Bent, Gyan and Welbeck up top, showing attacking intentions from the start. It was the £16 million Asamoah Gyan who went closest first, neatly heading over the last defender, before smashing an effort straight at Jaaeskaleinin in the Bolton goal.
The deadlock was broken just minutes later though. Darren Bent brilliantly took down a looping ball to the back post, before his shot was saved. The rebound fell to the edge of the six yard box, where the in form Danny Welbeck, swooped low to head home, a real striker's goal. The only other real talking point in the match, was a stunning save from Craig Gordon.
Zat Knight looked dead set to equalise for Bolton, stabbing home from 2 yards out after a corner. But reminiscent of that Gordon Banks save from Pele years ago, Gordon managed to grab the ball from behind his body, and loop it over the crossbar. Sunderland held out for the 1-0 victory, meaning they will go into Christmas day, in the Premier League's top six.
Unfortunately for West Ham fans, they will eat their Christmas dinner, knowing their side are bottom of the Premier League. They managed a credible 1-1 draw at Blackburn though, Rovers first game without Sam Allardyce since his sacking.
Ryan Nelson scrambled home to put the home side ahead, and it looked as if that would be enough for the three points. But Junior Stanislas scored his first goal of the season late on, to snatch United a point. Both sets of fans are on tenterhooks, after recent activities at the clubs. So a point each, will not do much too alter either team's current predicaments.
With all of Sunday's action also called off, there is only the Monday night clash between Manchester City and Everton to come .... hopefully.
