With just minutes to spare before the Football League loan window closed this afternoon, Nottingham Forest completed a shocking loan signing. The man I ranked as the fifth best teenager in World football this week, Aaron Ramsey, joined from Arsenal on a one month deal.
While at first the news surprised me, it is a great move for both parties. Ramsey suffered a horrific leg break in February, and having just returned, has played 45 minutes of reserve action. Wenger will want his talented young Welshman back to full match fitness as soon as possible, and at a good enough standard to compete in a Premier League title fight. He isn't going to gain that fitness in the club's reserves. This way, he will be playing in the country's second tier, and for a month, will be the star man at the club he is joining.
For Nottingham Forest, what a boost! They just missed out on promotion last season, finishing 3rd and eliminated in the play-offs by Blackpool. Cardiff's season was boosted hugely by the loan arrival of Craig Bellamy. This Welshman's loan move to the Championship, could be even more fruitful.
Forest currently lay 6th, and gaining one of the best young players in the world, even just for a month, is fantastic. With December being the busiest month of the season, it means Ramsey could play up to eight games for Forest. He could well help push them towards the automatic promotion places, and from their point of view, there isn't much risk.
For the talented player's sake, I hope this move goes well, and he is back to his brilliant best, and shining for Arsenal again come the new year.
