Premier League Catch-up

In the last few days I have learnt one thing about the English Premier League, if you fall ill, you fall behind! A couple of days in bed with a bug have seen me miss two rounds of action, and there are eight more games to come tonight. And Sunday was certainly a good day of football, not one you'd want to miss!
Though I would say that, as Newcastle United pulled off another stunning victory, this time at the Emirates, 1-0 against Arsenal. The Gunners did enough to win the game, Walcott and Fabregas hitting the bar, and Nasri brilliantly denied by Krul, but the Mags defence held out superbly. Andy Carroll's trademark headed goal on the stroke of half time settled it, in front of the watching England manager. This result puts Newcastle up to 5th, and still there is no new contract for manager Chris Hughton, maybe he has to win the Title first? Disgusting!
Italian striker Mario Balotelli arrived at Manchester City this summer with two reputations; the potential to be one of the best players in the world, and a wild child. He showed both of them at West Brom Sunday afternoon. Two clinically taken goals opened his Premier League account, to give City a 2-0 win, moving them just five points off leaders Chelsea. But then in the second half, the youngster lost his cool, kicking out at a Baggies defender, and earning himself a red card. By the end of the 90 minutes, West Brom were too down to 10-men, Mulumbu getting two bookings.
The final match of Super Sunday, saw Liverpool finally kick start their stuttering campaign, beating champions Chelsea in convincing fashion, 2-0. And to mirror his sides revival, Fernando Torres finally put in the type performance, which until recently had him labelled one of the world's best players. His two goals and some resilient defending was enough to lift the Merseysiders in to the table's top half for the first time this season. For Chelsea, there is now a bit of pressure, as they are just two points clear of Manchester United at the top.
But there wasn't much time to catch your breath after Sunday's action, as last night kicked off a full fixture list of mid-week matches. Tottenham's inconsistent Premier League form continued, being held 1-1 at home by Sunderland. Rafael Van der Vaart was yet again on target to put the Londoners in front, before Gyan, getting his chance in the absence of Darren Bent, salvaged a point for the Wearsiders. The night's other game saw a goalfest between Stoke City and Birmingham City, and no that isn't a joke. With twenty minutes left, Huth's goal had Stoke 1-0 up, and when Fuller made it 2, it seemed game over. Birmingham then scored two in a minute, through Fahey and Jerome, to seemingly snatch a point. That was until Dean Whitehead poked home an 85th minute winner for the Potters, giving Stoke a 3-2 victory.
The ever changing picture that is the Premier League table, now sees Birmingham City slip to 17th as a result of last night's defeat, with Stoke leapfrogging them and up to 15th. The point shared at White Hart Lane, leaves Tottenham and Sunderland, 6th and 7th respectively. But obviously, with 16 teams in action tonight, it is all subject to change once again.
