Fabio Capello has tonight named his England squad to face France on Wednesday night, and it definitely has unfamiliar look to it. There are four uncapped players included, as well as a host of players with only a handful of full International caps looking for more experience at this level.
England debuts could well be given to Newcastle United forward Andy Carroll, Cardiff City's Jay Bothroyd, Manchester United's young centre back Chris Smalling and Sunderland Midfielder, Jordan Henderson. For me, Bothroyd is the most intriguing call up. The 28 year old striker has had an average career, but has kicked on at Cardiff, and scored twice earlier today for the Championship leaders. The other three first time call-up recipients are all 21 and under.
Other inexperienced youngsters in the squad include Arsenal's Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs, and Manchester City's Micah Richards. A slight worry will be a lack of fire power in the squad, with Carroll and Bothroyd, only joined by Crouch and Agbhonlahor, who only returned from injury for Villa today. Here is the squad in full;
Goalkeepers; Ben Foster, Joe Hart & Robert Green
Defenders; Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Phil Jagielka, Chris Smalling, Jolean Lescott, Micah Richards & Kieran Gibbs
Midfielders; Gareth Barry, Steven Gerrard, James Milner, Ashley Young, Jordan Henderson, Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott & Adam Johnson
Forwards; Andy Carroll, Jay Bothroyd, Peter Crouch & Gabriel Agbhonlahor
