Manchester United get their man ... but is he the right man?

This evening it appears that Sir Alex Ferguson has identified his next number 1 goalkeeper at Old Trafford. With Manchester United first choice Edwin Van der Sar now 40 years old, Ben Foster having moved on last summer, and Tomas Kuzsack seemingly unlikely to make the grade, speculation has been ripe as to who would be the Dutch veteran's successor. It now seems that 26-year-old Danish International goalkeeper, Anders Lindegaard, will arrive for £3.5 million, from Norwegian club Aalesunds FK.
It has been very obvious that Ferguson's main priority for the near future is to find United's next long-term shot-stopper. A lot of names have been linked to the position, namely talented young goalkeepers Igor Akinfeev and David De Gea. In more recent times, there has been heavy speculation linking the Red Devils with a move for Liverpool's Pepe Reina. So perhaps the signing of a relatively unknown Lindegaard, will come as a slight disappointment to the fans.
Of course this won't be the first Danish keeper to play for the club. Legend Peter Schmeichel is considered by many as the finest number 1 the Premier League has ever seen. And the great man has been quoted as saying 'I don't believe it for a minute', in response to reports linking United to Lindegaard, stating Reina is the man to replace Van der Sar. But with the Aalesunds chairmen, and the player in Manchester this evening, a deal could be just hours away.
Personally, I haven't seen him play, and I'm sure Ferguson has done plenty of homework before making the signing. As well, Lindegaard became Denmark's first choice earlier this year, and now has four senior caps. Plenty of keepers have tried to fill the void left by Schmeichel's departure nearly 15 years ago, and the manager will be desperate to avoid seeing another come and go. I rate Akinfeev and De Gea very highly, and if I were a Manchester United fan, I would have much preferred to see one of these two arrive. But having not seen him play, I guess like a lot of United fans, I'll have to wait and see if this gamble pays off.
