Man Utd get Hammered

December 1st 2010 10:43
West Ham 4 Man Utd 0

Last night brought us the first two of four League Cup Quarter Finals, and by was there a shocking result. As Arsenal comfortably made their way past Wigan as expected, Manchester United got a rude awakening at Upton Park.

There have been signs for a little optimism for West Ham in recent weeks. A Premier League victory over Wigan last weekend brought them closer to escaping the league's drop zone, but last night's result will have boosted confidence no end. On a snowy evening in East London, it finished West Ham 4 Manchester United 0.

Jonathan Spector scored his first and second ever goals in English football, against his old club, to have the Hammers in a brilliant lead. Having been involved in the first two, Victor Obinna then set up Carlton Cole for a third. The English striker then scored his second, to wrap up a stunning win for West Ham, moving them into the semi-finals.

Arsenal were far from their best at home against Wigan, but did enough to get through. An Alcaraz own goal had the Gunners 1-0 up at the break, before Bendtner added a second. Arsenal join West Ham in the last four.

Tonight's quarter-finals see a Midlands derby between Birmingham City and Aston Villa, and the only remaining Championship side in the competition, Ipswich Town face West Brom.

Very shocked by the West Ham and United game.

I see West Brom and Aston Villa winning their matches.

Look for Arsenal to win Cup

Spector was my athlete of the day on my website as a result. West Ham looked rejuvenated at his return, and I expect them to drastically move up in the standings. I believe in them. I am not surprised with their win, and I am elated that Arsenal passed through. I would hate to see any questions raised about Wenger's capabilities as manager.

4-0 West Ham is crazy! Definitely Arsenal's trophy to lose now, though Villa were beaten finalists last year, could go one better!
