After another weekend which proved no team particularly wants to win the Premier League title this season, Manchester City today suggested they could well be big contenders. Given Mancini's negative tactics being heavily criticised recently, Citizens fans would have been delighted to see forwards David Silva, Carlos Tevez and Jo in the starting line-up.
Mark Hughes wouldn't have enjoyed his reunion with his old club, with a Tevez brace helping ease the away side to victory. This double takes the Argentinian too 9 league goals for the season, putting him clear of Carroll and Elmander as the top scorer. A great strike from Zabaleta and a Yaya Toure strike rounded off a comfortable win for City, with Gera grabbing a consolation goal for Fulham.
This impressive 4-1 win puts Manchester City back to fourth, just three points behind the top two, Manchester United and Chelsea. Fulham have this weekend slipped to 17th.
Sunday's other game saw Blackburn Rovers good week end perfectly. After their midweek takeover was completed, they dispensed of Aston Villa 2-0 at Ewood Park. Having netted against Newcastle last week, and against Ireland in midweek, Morten Gamst Pederson scored both goals for Rovers in this comfortable win.
Villa now slip behind Blackburn in the table, with the pair sitting 11th and 13th. Just one more fixture to come this weekend, with Everton taking on Sunderland, in the Monday night live match tomorrow night.
