Yesterday, I found out that along with my two younger brothers, we have successfully got places to run next years London Marathon. We will be running for a charity called 'The Anthony Nolan Trust', a charity committed to finding matches for leukaemia patients, who need a stem cell, bone marrow or cord blood transplant. I am very excited to be running the race, and raising money for such a worthy cause, and our sponsorship target is £3500.
I ran the 26.2 mile race in 2009, for the same charity, finishing in a time of 3 hours 50 minutes. I did my four month's training whilst in my second year at university, and a self-imposed alcohol ban during this time, was probably the biggest challenge of all. Despite wanting to never run again as I crossed the finish line, my time training for that run has given me a bug for long-distances races which I can't shake.
I'm not starting training just yet, but will give regular updates on how my running is going once I do. Along with my brothers, we will also be entering half marathons to help with getting fitness up. Details will also follow, on how you can sponsor us should you want too. Given that my ultimate goal is to one day run the New York Marathon, I'd love to here from anyone on Orble from either side of the pond, running one of these worldwide known marathons in next 12 months.
