Lethal Arsenal dump out Toon

Tim Krul Own goal

Last night Newcastle United were eliminated from the League Cup, after a 4-0 home defeat against Arsenal. While the Londoners were worthy of the victory, the scoreline was without doubt, an exaggeration of their dominance. Given that on my drive to Newcastle, I was 79 miles away in my car an hour before kick off, I did well to only miss the first ten minutes, by which point I've learned the Mags could have already been a couple behind.

Hughton made nine changes from the weekend, backing up his point that the priority this season is staying in the Premier League. Fringe players like Lovenkrands, Smith, Guthrie and Ryan Taylor, were joined by youngsters Haris Vukcic, Tamas Kadar and Nile Ranger in the starting line-up. Wenger fielded another strong team in the competition, showing his ambition to win every trophy this season. Rosicky, Walcott, Bendnter, Clichy and Denilson started, with Fabregas and Sagna later appearing. Given the line-ups, Newcastle gave it a good go, matching the Gunners for the whole of the first half. Arsenal only took the lead through a Tim Krul own goal on the stroke of half time.

Theo Walcott's blistering pace troubled throughout, and he latched onto a header through early in the second half to double the lead, which lead to Newcastle taking chances, and throwing men forward. The majority of the second half was the Toon trying to score, but impressive young Arsenal keeper, Szczesny kept them at bay. In the last ten minutes, Bendnter and Walcott got through on the break to score, making the full time result 4-0. Despite the defeat, there were positives for Newcastle. Most of the first team were rested, ahead of the Tyne-Wear derby on Sunday. Also, Vuckic inparticular looked very at home in the midfield.

Here are all of the results from this week's League Cup Fourth Round matches;

Tuesday -
Birmingham 1-1 Brentford (Birmingham win on penalties)
Ipswich 3-1 Northampton
Leicester 1-4 West Brom
Manchester United 3-2 Wolves
Wigan 2-0 Swansea

Wednesday;
Aston Villa 2-1 Burnley
Newcastle United 0-4 Arsenal
West Ham 3-1 Stoke City

Let's go Gooners! How about Walcott? He was amazing and Bentdner was great too. Walcott was named my athlete of the day on my blog. He barely edged out stiff competition by some NBA players that had great games. Nile Ranger is an underrated player, and he showed it. He was the only Toon player that gave a strong outing. I disagree with you, Arsenal dominated. I like Newcastle, but they were knocked out for a reason. WS showed that he could be better than Alumnia. Gosh, I despise Alumnia.

Yeah one big plus for me personally was getting to see Walcott play, and Fabregas when he came on. Walcott is so dangerous every time he gets the ball, and Cesc oozes class. The thing is i think it was quite even, but Arsenal just showed that they are a much better team (which was already obvious). So much more clinical and so much more quality in front of goal. World class finishes for 2nd are 3rd goals. Your keeper was good too! who you fancy getting next round?
