Hughton's boys down Liverpool

In yesterday's evening kick off in the Premier League, Newcastle United impressively beat Liverpool, 3-1 at St James' Park. And no, I haven't lost my mind and forgotten that Chris Hughton is no longer manager, as this was Alan Pardew's first game in the dugout. But as far as I'm concerned, the three points were still thanks to Hughton, as until the new man has time to make his mark, all credit for great results should go to the former gaffer.
In an open, and even opening fifteen minutes, both teams struggled to make a clear cut chance. That was until Andy Carroll brilliantly nodded Barton's free kick onto Kevin Nolan's boot, for 1-0. Quite bemusingly, Magpies owner Mike Ashley was shown on TV, going wild in his box, hugging those around him frantically.
Shortly after half time, a deflected effort from Dirk Kuyt, found its way into the bottom corner to equalise for Liverpool. But this was a rare highlight in a lacklustre performance from the Merseysiders, as Torres struggled to make any impact on the game. The home side got the three points they deserved, thanks to two goals in the last ten minutes. First Joey Barton marked his return from suspension by poking past Reina, before Carroll got on the score sheet, firing home left-footed from 25 yards.
This was a perfect start for Alan Pardew, but I don't think three points will quite be enough for the fans to forgive owner Mike Ashley. But a great result which means Newcastle leapfrog Liverpool, and up into 8th place.
Here are the other results from Saturday's Premier League action;
Aston Villa 2 West Brom 1
Everton 0 Wigan 0
Fulham 0 Sunderland 0
Stoke City 0 Blackpool 1
West Ham 1 Manchester City 3
