Hughton needs new deal

I have already made my views about rumours suggesting Chris Hughton would be sacked this week very clear, in my previous post, 'Hughton has to stay'. But with his deal expiring at the end of the season, I do have another very real concern. Just because this is the ex-Spurs coach's first taste of management, the media, and a lot of football fans, seem to think he isn't a big enough name to manage Newcastle United. But in all honesty, given the club's record in recent years, and his success in what is his first management job, it is more likely the case, that he is too good for Newcastle United.
It seems a ridiculous statement to make at first, but let's look at the facts. Most manager's struggle to control the dressing room when they are new to management, and Newcastle certainly have their fair share of personalities to keep happy. Not only has Hughton controlled the likes of Barton, Smith, Carroll and Nolan, but has also got the very best out of them. That is very impressive! He has also got the best out of inconsistent performers such as Wayne Routledge, Jonas, Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Mike Williamson, Shola Ameobi and Danny Simpson.
Hughton took control of a relegated club in crisis. The summer he sort of took over, even his own position was completely unclear. Players of quality such as Bassong, Habib Beye, Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins and Viduka departed, and we were apparently going to be fighting relegation. 18 monthes later, and after storming to the Championship title, we are sitting pretty 7th in the Premier League, after our best Tyne-Wear derby result in 54 years.
So he has brilliant man management skills, and is getting the results on the pitch, so what else makes a top Premier League manager? How good is he in the transfer market? I have to say, fantastic! I wonder how many Newcastle fans had heard of Cheick Tiote, but he looks like a bargain at a couple of million, a genuine class act in the middle of the pitch. I could have only dreamt we'd bring in a player of Hatem Ben Arfa's quality this summer, but Hughton made that happen, and his broken leg is a real travesty. Other seemingly average signings such as Simpson, Routledge and Williamson have turned out to be good deals for the clubs. Yes, there have been a few flops, but even Sir Alex Ferguson has dropped the odd gaff along the way, I give you Eric Djemba-Djemba.
So despite not being a big name, or big personality, what more proof does anyone need, that Chris Hughton is a top-class manager? It is some what arrogant of Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, to have not yet offered a new deal to the Magpies boss, who's deal runs out this coming summer. Last week there was a lot of speculation he would be sacked, and there seems to be a huge feeling that eventually, Newcastle will get rid of Hughton, and replace him with someone better. There is a feeling he is lucky to be manager of such a great club. In my opinion, it is quite the opposite, we are lucky to have him. Newcastle United need to get Chris Hughton too sign a new, long-term deal, before other side's start sniffing around.
