FIFA Tries To Ruin Football
May 30th 2008 16:47
In an absolutely idiotic move the FA and FIFA have voted in favor of Sepp Blatter’s six-plus-five rule, meaning in all likelihood the rule could be in place for the 2012/2013 season. Which will be awful for football, only because it’s a moronic limitation manager’s have to keep track of for their squads.
Under the proposed rule, teams will be required to play six domestic players in their starting eleven, only being allowed five foreign players. Which as they stand now could be huge trouble for top flight clubs in England such as Liverpool and Arsenal. So now apparently strategy will be governed by which players you’re even allowed to play in any set match.
I understand the concept, to recruit and develop more domestic players, improving every country’s national squads, and also combat the strategy of buying players and forcing teams to develop more potential through their own youth programs. That’s a great concept and should be encouraged, but you just can’t put a limitation on strategy.
I also want to know what in the world Arsenal would do if such a rule gets passed, as they don’t have any English players in their starting eleven. That would mean gutting the squad and completely rebuilding from scratch in a few years. And that just doesn’t seem fair to Arsenal or their fans.
