Non-league side FC United of Manchester's fairytale FA Cup run has come to an end, eliminated in the second round last night. The break off club for Manchester United hosted League One leaders Brighton, after earning a draw away from home a couple of weeks ago. They now miss out on the chance to host Portsmouth in the next round.
To be honest, it was an easy night for Brighton, winning 4-0 in the end. Sandaza and Calderon had them in a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break. But it seemed that FC United were going to make a real fight of it, when they were awarded a penalty early in the second half. However, Jake Cotterill missed the resulting spot kick.
Late goals from Bennett and Sparrow added some gloss to the scoreline, meaning the Seagulls go into the third round. For FC United of Manchester, that dream tie against Manchester United, will have to wait another season at least.
