Everton

December 22nd 2010 12:11

Everton
Position - 14th
Points - 21
Won - 4, Drawn - 9, Lost - 5
Top scorer - Tim Cahill - 9
Star man - Phil Jagielka

There are some things in football, which are very hard to explain. Why Everton are 14th is one of them. Before this season, I thought everything was in place. Hugely talented squad, good depth, a blend of youth and experience, and a good manager who has been there for years. But for some reason, the Toffees have under achieved so far this campaign.

Great results like winning Man City and drawing with Man United, have been ruined by sloppy performances against lesser sides. Everton need one thing without a doubt, a reliable striker. Cahill has been exceptional this season, bagging nine goals from midfield already. But Saha, Yakubu and Beckford just haven't scored goals.

It is surprising considering where they are in the league, how many Everton players have impressed me this season. Cahill, Baines and Jagielka would all be pushing for a place in a Premier League team of the year right now. I still think the club could push up the table in 2011. Given how tight things are, Europe isn't out of the question yet. But just like last season, I think their poor start, will ultimately cost them a European berth.

My prediction - 9th

Tim Cahill has always been one of the best players in the world, it's just that people didn't care to think of it that way. Jagielka and Baines have had huge breakout seasons. Tim Howard is showing that he really is that good, and it's not just propaganda from the American media.
