EPL team of the season so far
December 22nd 2010 06:36
I have done this for La Liga and now I am shifting towards EPL. This is my EPL team of the season (so far). Formation will be a normal 4-4-2.
Goalkeeper
Joe Hart (GK - Manchester City)
Having returned back to City from loan, he has kept Shay Given outside the City line-up, thanks to some brilliant performances by him. He has made the multi-millionaire City a poor club in terms of goals conceded and rich in terms of clean sheets. He has kept 8 clean sheets so far and looks like he will keep more of them, if he continues the way he is playing now.
Defenders
Nedum Onuoha (RB/RWB - Sunderland)
Another City lad but is on loan with Sunderland and my word, what a move! This loan move has brought the best out of him and has shown the World that City have a defender with great potential. He's been the key member of Steve Bruce's side and has proven it by 8 clean sheets in the matches he has played. Also, his attacking qualities are brilliant and his goal against Chelsea (which is a prime contender for the goal of the season) just proves that. Overall, he is the best right back of this season, so far.
Nemanja Vidic(c) (CB - Manchester United
After he retires, he will be one of the very few defenders who can proudly say that he dominated and tormented the players against him. The Serbian is the heart of the United defense and has been that for some years now. Wearing the captain's arm-band, he has commanded his troops all this season and now Manchester United at first place, with a game in hand, heading into the new year. In the match against Arsenal, he just showed that why he is the most feared defender to have walked on this planet and EPL should, in fact, be proud to have a defender of his class.
Vincent Kompany (CB - Manchester City)
The second City player to make it into this line up, he is one of the rare player to have come for a 'miserly' 6 million Euros and has done better than the other big-money signings, comparatively. Joe Hart has kept 8 clean sheets so far and, off course, it is not only because of Hart's safe pair of hands, but also Kompany's excellent defending. His marking and tackling, and not to forget his defense organising, has been one of the key aspects towards his strong performances. Next season, if City get back Onuoha, he and Onuoha will become the most devastating full back and centre back pairing in the EPL., I believe.
Leighton Baines (LB/LWB - Everton)
This man is highly unfortunate because he holds the same passport as Ashley Cole. He would've walked into any national team, even Spain, as a left back. He has been in tremendous form, not only this season, but for some years now. His defensive qualities are unquestionable and his offensive qualities are even better, making him one of the best and the most underrated left-back of recent times. He easily makes it to this list because neither Cole, nor Evra, have showed their best, so far, in this season and most importantly, his own skills as a full back.
Midfielders
Samir Nasri (RM - Arsenal)
Samir Nasri always had the talent to be one of the best player in the World. Fortunately, his unfortunate dropping out of the WC final squad, by Raymond Domenech, has been the key reason of his current form. Since the season has begun, he has been used anywhere in the opposition half and every time he has done brilliantly, by both scoring and creating goals (his performance against Fulham makes that statement more concrete). Fabregas being injured most of this season, he has been the main midfield orchestrator and has excelled in that.
Rafael Van der Vaart (CM - Tottenham
Although he has been injured most of the season, he's made huge impact in matches which he has featured. Getting a new lease of life in the free-role behind the striker(s), Harry Redknapp has brought the demon out of him and he has scored for Spurs on every occasion, when playing at home (except one home game). He has the highest goal-scorer (6) and has the 2nd highest assists (4) for The Spurs in the EPL. Had he not been injured, that tally would have increased and he, probably, would have been the best player on this list.
Chris Brunt (CM - West Brom Albion)
Chris who? Apparently, he's been the key player for West Brom. Playing in the left midfield berth (in this line up he is a centre midfielder just because he and the left midfielder, which I am going to name after this, have been so, so good this season), he has scored twice and has assisted the highest number of goals for his team, 8. His pin-point passing and crossing are the key aspects of his and West Brom's success. He can also be reliable to score from free kicks. His deadly left foot is a monster free-kick specialist. Also, he has been quiet consistent, so far, this season.
Gareth Bale (LM - Tottenham)
The man has been the revelation of this season, so far. The man who gave a merry dance to the once-upon-a-time best attacking right back, Maicon, this season. He is the one who has put that 'once-upon-a-time' tag on Maicon after he annihilated the attacking full back and exposed his defensive flaws in the Champions League match.
He is one of the star of Harry Redknapp's high-flying side and rightly so. He has scored 5 goals and assisted one in this season and looks like there will be more to come from him after the season resumes. Firing deadly crosses and creating space for the strikers, he's an ideal guy for the LM berth. Also, he is one of the most active players in the EPL, running to and fro on the pitch and making sure he helps out the defense from any threats.
Forwards
Marouane Chamakh (CF - Arsenal)
The Moroccan has been, according to me, the best signing of the summer transfer window. He came to Arsenal on a free transfer and has fired with all guns blazing. He has scored 7 league goals and has assisted twice and is on his way to reach his mission of scoring 20 goals this season (including the other competitions). No one expected him to score that many due to his poor scoring history at Bordeaux, where he had a 1 goal per 4.5 games record. But now, since he is under the magical Arsene Wenger, his talent his been used to the fullest. He is a kind of a forward who will also make his team-mates score. He has also adapted very well in Wenger's pass-and-move system, playing very unselfishly when needed.
Andrew Carroll (ST- Newcastle United)
Want to see a classic and perfect forward? Just look at Andrew Carroll and you will know what I mean. The tall and big guy has been in the best form of his life, which saw him getting a call-up for England. The big man has scored 10 goals (highest by a Newcastle player this season) and has also assisted 3 times. His figure is a perfect target man figure. Dubbing him as the next Alan Shearer suits perfectly to his style and it is hoped that one day he will emulate his childhood hero. It is also reported that Real Madrid are going to splash 22 million Pounds for his services. If this rumor is true, Andy might well be on his way to Spain. But Newcastle fans will pray that it is not true. I, Madrid fan, also pray that he doesn't comes because if he does, I see my favorite striker, Benzema, out of the club.
