It is fair to say, that there are a few surprising clubs in the five team category from 6th to 10th. Two newly promoted clubs occupy these positions, and would love the season just to finish right now. But for four of these teams, it is a case of analysing how their good starts will help them avoid the drop, and for one, how much they can push on, towards the top four.
10th - Fulham
Under new manager Mark Hughes, along with Manchester United, Fulham are one of the only two unbeaten teams in the league. One win and six draws from their first seven games, has given them a solid, if uneventful start. With muchly the same squad that reached the Europa League final last season, Hughes should do well at his new club. However, the broken leg sustained by star man Bobby Zamora, is a huge blow. Top ten will be the target this season, and I feel the Cottagers will be there, or there abouts come May.
My Prediction - 11th
9th - Blackpool
Before the season begun, it was very difficult to predict which three teams would go down, but at least one pick was easy, Blackpool. But ten points after seven games is a fantastic start, including wins away at Wigan, Newcastle and incredibly, Liverpool! A worry would be how the team has folded in games against Arsenal and Chelsea, getting thrashed on both occasions. It has been a dream start for Holloway's boys, and at risk of angering Blackpool fans, I feel the dream will end. I still think they will go down, and with the league so tight, they only lie five points above bottom place. But if they carry on like this, they could well prove me, and a lot of other people, wrong.
8th - Aston Villa
After Martin O'Neill's shock departure just days before the season kicked off, have done well to make such a good start. Gerard Houllier has begun his time at Villa Park well, with a first defeat to Tottenham only coming last weekend. Look a good team, and should finish top six, given Everton and Liverpool's dodgy starts. Heskey seems revitalised, and with a bit of money maybe available in january, could be an exciting season for Villa fans.
My Prediction - 6th
7th - Stoke City
Tony Pulis has managed a miracle at Stoke City, he has made them invisible. Year after year, I never notice them picking up points, yet some how they have ten of them? After a shaky starts, wins over Villa and Newcastle have steadied the ship, and the stabilization of the club continues. Third season in the Premier League for the Potters, and mission mid table is off to a good start. while I don't always agree with Stoke City's style of play, they are simply too good to go down.
My Prediction - 13th
6th - West Brom
The Hawthorns club have made an incredible start to the season, newly promoted but looking very assured. That 3-2 win at Arsenal will be remembered forever at the club, and an eleven points return already is phenomenal. Di Matteo got manager of the month for September, and looks to very comfortable at this level. New striker Peter Odemwingie doesn't seem to be a flash in the pan either, and he will propel them easily to safety. Very impressed by West Brom so far this season.
My Prediction - 15th
