English Premier League Team of Month - October

November 3rd 2010 01:32
Nani

Goalkeeper - Joe Hart (Man City)
Continues to look the part in goal for Manchester City and England. Is a big reason in why City are so high in the table, given their lack of goals

Defence - Phil Jagielka (Everton), Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle) & Ashley Cole (Chelsea)
Despite not being the most popular man in England, it is impossible to ignore Ashley Cole's ability, as the best left back in world football. October saw him powering into attacking positions, but defending brilliantly as usual. A season in the Championship seems to have done wonders for Coloccini, and is now proving a real rock at the back for Newcastle. And Jagielka is improving all the time, and would have kept ahead of Ferdinand or Terry in the England team, barring injury.

Alex Song

Midfield - Alex Song (Arsenal), Nani (Man Utd), Florent Malouda (Chelsea), Gareth Bale (Tottenham) & Michael Essien (Chelsea)
Malouda and Nani are proving real goal scorers for their clubs, and with both Chelsea and Man Utd's strikers struggling to find the net right now, are possibly the most important players at their clubs at the moment. Essien's return from injury has added a new dimension to Chelsea this season. Song is improving incredibly well at Arsenal, and is even getting forward to finding the net now. Gareth Bale is simply sensational at the moment. Twice destroying Inter Milan's defence reason enough to have him in the October team.

Strikers - Darren Bent (Sunderland) & Carlos Tevez (Man City)
Despite being a Newcastle fan, I believe Bent deserves more credit. His goal scoring record at a mid table team like Sunderland is incredible. Even managed to bag a goal in the derby humiliation, taking him to six league strikes for the season. That is one behind Carlos Tevez. The City skipper's goals with Hart's clean sheets, are what is keeping Mancini's job safe, and big spending Manchester City near the top of the table.

Here is my bench, with all seven desperately unlucky to miss out;

Ben Foster (Birmingham City), Roger Johnson (Birmingham City), Kevin Nolan (Newcastle), Samir Nasri (Arsenal), Rafael Van der Vaart (Tottenham), Andy Carroll (Newcastle) & Nemanja Vidic (Man Utd)
