The UEFA Euro 2008 is on it’s way, and with England being given the summer tournament season off, English fans such as myself need to look elsewhere to place their support. Based upon recent events, I’m betting on Spain to stamp out competition and win the tournament. Torres is due to take some of that Premiership success over to the International level and dominate the score sheet.
France and Italy will choke after having gotten to the World Cup final two years ago, Portugal doesn’t have the depth of talent to go all the way. And a very strong German side, always seems to let themselves down, despite being one of the absolute most talented squads in the world. I believe these five to be the determining factors of the tournament, and Spain can easily drive past them if they can keep their heads up.
If only Fabregas can finally make his talents cross over to the international stage adequately. This will also be the perfect stage for Xabi Alonso to showcase the mistake Liverpool is making in undervaluing his importance to the club. And Spain should have an easy enough time for starters, really having only Russia to worry about in their group, they should be set for advancement.
Although it’s of importance to note, with the ever growing strength of the team, Netherlands could be a great, in my opinion, underdog to watch for. If they can pull off a few upsets, they could have the confidence to be an unstoppable force.
