Jose Mourinho has a made a fantastic start to life in La Liga, as manager of Real Madrid. Impressive in the Champions League, and top of the Spanish league whilst remaining unbeaten, 'the special one' couldn't have asked for much more. But last night he returned to Barcelona, the club where his footballing education began as a translator for then manager, Sir Bobby Robson. Unfortunately for Mourinho, his players were last night given an education themselves.
Barca routed Real Madrid 5-0 at the Camp Nou, making it five straight El Classico victories for the Catalunia, and means that Pep Guardialo retains his 100% record in the fixture. The result also sees the reigning Spanish Champions leap frog their biggest rival, and move into first place.
David Villa was on hand to score twice, while Xavi, Pedro and Jeffren added the others. Though he didn't get his name on the score sheet, Lionel Messi was at his best, creating at least three of the goals. He definitely outshone Cristiano Ronaldo, in what was being billed as the world's two best players going head to head.
After the match, Jose Mourinho refused to accept that his side has been humiliated, stating that it was the same as any other defeat. I agree with his sentiment that Real Madrid shouldn't panic. They could easily still be Champions come the end of the season, and all it would take is a victory at home against Barca to restore balance. But to the Madrid fans, I'm pretty sure this will be seen as a pretty big humiliation, something which Barcelona fans will enjoy.
