Chelsea Conflicted
May 27th 2008 07:04
A whole wave of conflicting reports and drama from the Chelsea camp today. Jose Mourinho has been linked to retaking the reins for Chelsea as long as owner Roman Abramovich agrees to Mourinho’s own terms for reclaiming his managerial role, as reported in The Sun. Although reports have also surfaced, saying that the special one has no further interest in his former club and is set on moving forward with his own career. I don’t understand why Jose would go back, no matter how much cash they offer him, Mourinho is too good for a club that would have the audacity to sack one of the most ingenious managers in the modern era.
Also reported as being in consideration for the Chelsea manager gig, is former Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard. Although I foresee him transferring over to a Serie A club, opposed to trying his hand at the English game. And again also in the running possibly, is Mark Hughes, although I doubt he could handle a club as big as Chelsea at this point in time.
Roman Abramovich is also reportedly trying to find a manager that will allow him to participate in club decisions such as lineup and tactics. Which I think is absolutely devastatingly hilarious, given Chelsea’s utter failure to win any of the silverware for which they almost acquired, a direct cause of Abramovich forcing his opinions on Mourinho to the point Jose stepped down. Why would he ever think he’s fit to make any decision on football. Congratulations Roman, you’re rich and a business genius, but that doesn’t qualify you to make competitive decisions for a Premiership quality football club.
Another story that’s come up that has to be completely false is Chelsea making a 50million bid for Liverpool’s Fernando Torres. Which has to be completely out there, because there is no way in hell Liverpool would be so stupid as to throw away the most positive thing going for them. But then again Liverpool is the same squad that is pushing out Peter Crouch's involvement, and also considers Xabi Alonso expendable as a summer transfer sale prospect.
