Today saw the draw take place, for the first knockout round of this season's Champions League. The round of 16 will see some intriguing encounters, including a repeat of last season's final.
Inter Milan take on Bayern Munich, with the first leg to be held in the San Siro. After the Italians lifted the trophy in 2010, beating Bayern 2-0 in the final, the Germans will be desperate for revenge.
For the English sides, it was good and bad news. Arsenal landed their inevitable encounter with Barcelona. Even though the draw is completely random, it seemed certain these two sides would be paired together. With the first leg to be held at the Emirates, Arsenal will be desperate to beat the side that knocked them out in the competition last year.
Tottenham Hotspurs will face AC Milan, in what should be a great tie. Chelsea will be pleased with the outcome, as they will face FC Copenhagen, with Manchester United getting Marseille. With the likes of Inter and Roma to avoid, the two English giants will be delighted to land lesser sides.
Roma hit the jackpot, drawing Shakhtar. Valencia will face Schalke, and Lyon will take on Real Madrid. Jose Mourinho will be hoping he can guide the Spanish giants past the last 16 stage, for the first time in seven years. The first legs will take place on the 15/16th February, and 22/23rd. The second legs will be on the 8/9th March, and 15/16th March.
