Champions League Last 16 Line Up Confirmed

December 8th 2010 23:29
Robin Van Persie

Tonight's Champions League action saw a couple of issues resolved, to complete the 16 team line up, for the competition's first knock out round. Arsenal beat Partizan 3-1 to wrap up 2nd place in Group H. Meanwhile in Group E, a 1-1 draw for Roma in Cluj, was enough to see them through.

So here is the full list of group winners, and runners up, making it into the next stage of this season's Champions League;

Group Winners
Tottenham Hotspurs
Schalke 04
Manchester United
Barcelona
Bayern Munich
Chelsea
Real Madrid
Shakhtar Donestk

Group 2nd Places
Inter Milan
Lyon
Valencia
FC Copenhagen
Roma
Marseille
AC Milan
Arsenal

It is worth noting that teams can not be drawn against the team they came through their group with. Also in this next round, two teams from the same country can not face each other. With the likes of Arsenal, Inter, Lyon, Valencia, Roma and AC Milan finishing 2nd in their groups, there will be some mouth watering clashes in the first knockout round, with the draw being made later this month.

While it is impossible to predict the outcome of a random draw, I wouldn't bet against Inter Milan being drawn against Real Madrid in the next round. This would see Jose Mourinho make an immediate return to the San Siro. Personally, I feel Arsenal v Barcelona, in a repeat of last season's Quarter Final, would be an exciting prospect.

Barca v Arsenal would definitely be interesting, see those two attacking sides take each other on! I think Inter v Bayern, a repeat of last season's final, could be good!

I don't want Barcelona versus Arsenal for the sole reason that Barcelona will completely dominate us!

i can understand as an arsenal fan why you wouldn't want that, but would be a great match. If Nasri, Walcott, Arshavin and Fabregas were on top form, i believe they could beat anyone. But then again, same can be said of Xavi, Iniesta, Messi and Pedro
