Blackburn to move for Maradona?

December 15th 2010 10:20
could Diego maradona be heading to Blackburn?

Following the surprise sacking of Sam Allardyce on Sunday, the Venky's Group that own the club, have been very willing to speak about their plans to the media. In a rather strange move, it seems that first team coach, Steve Kean, is set to remain caretaker manager until the end of the season. For me, that leaves me wondering why Big Sam couldn't have just carried on, until next summer, then replace him?

But the ambitious Indian owners, have said that Allardyce does not fit with their vision for the club's future. That is probably because he is a realist. The new owners are not. They want the club to be 'a top four or five club in the Premier League'. Well if that is what they want, then the Venky's Group best have deep pockets.

They have also stated that they would like the next manager to be British, but would be open to non-British managers, if they were 'exceptional candidates'. And that is where Diego Maradona comes in.

A club statement today, confirms that Blackburn Rovers have indeed been in contact with the Argentinian legend. Maradona has been out of work, since leaving his post as national team manager after the World Cup. Apparently, he was considered to take the hot seat immediately after the Indian business group bought the club, and now could well take over in the Summer.

But given the 'hand of god' incident against Engalnd at the 1986 World Cup, I'm pretty sure he would get a less than warm welcome in this country. He also lacks real managerial experience. But one thing he does have in common with Rovers' new owners, is that he too, is ambitious, and likely to be unrealistic. It is a risk, but if it pays off, and Maradona is backed financially, maybe Blackburn Rovers may be on the way up!

I was hoping when i saw this on the Orble home page you were joking, oh dear Blackburn Rovers. If this happens, Newcastle look good in comparison!

Yeah, Maradona is one of the worst managers in the world. I sincerely have no idea why he even tries. This man is hopeless at managing. He should just go home. Great players don't make great managers. Just look at baseball legend Honus Wagner. Anyway, Allardyce is far better than Maradona. I think this deal may have been more about Maradona than Allardyce. I think that Allardyce could have been a lame duck once Blackburn realized that they could get Maradona, and then they just started to make excuses about why they fired Allardyce. Don't read into my comment with seriousness. It's just a theory.

Maradona is not that bad as you all think of but blackburn does not deserve that a star name should attach with their club .
