Berbatov In Red?

Reds Rejoice, despite Real Madrid reportedly making a formal offer of £75million to United owner Glazer for mid-fielder Ronaldo. Sir Alex Ferguson is officially making his intentions of signing Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov clear, taking a £25million offer to White Hart Lane. With Chelsea interest tapering off now, after the appointment of Scolari, perhaps Manchester United have a chance at winning the current bidding war for Berbatov.

I think United will be set, despite losing Ronaldo, if they can acquire a playmaker like Berbatov. The Bulgarian has such a nose for goal he really cannot be silenced, not to mention the passing he brings to the attacking third. Forget about Tevez, play Berbatov up front ahead of Rooney, with Hargreaves on the right wing, and you have a new winning combo. Keep a Carrick, Scholes midfield with Giggs or Nani on the left, and you have a team well more than capable of repeating last year’s success with the double, and even taking it further to acquiring the treble.

In rival news Chelsea look primed to lose Frank Lampard, given Scolari’s persistence in acquiring Portugal’s Deco. The move seems to have upset Lampard, given that it could put his first team place under pressure, and may inspire the England international to take the offer put forth by Mourinho’s club Inter Milan. Scolari may be making a mistake in forcing out a player that has helped carry Chelsea so many times over the years, in favor of an unproven Premiership candidate like Deco.

But Scolari also shouldn’t worry about burning any bridges, given that he’s got £100million to spend on any new players he would like to bring to Stamford Bridge.
