Berba-Top for United

November 28th 2010 09:30

All season long, it has been the same story about Manchester United .. winning games, but not really finding top gear. Despite going into this weekend joint top of the Premier League, I haven't been impressed by them once. Yesterday afternoon, I was very impressed.

United beat Blackburn Rovers 7-1 at Old Trafford, with one of their striker's becoming only the fourth ever, to score five times in a Premier League match. However, it wasn't the returning Wayne Rooney, but Dimitar Berbatov. The Marmite like figure at United hadn't scored in ten games, since his brilliant hat trick against Liverpool in September. His five goals yesterday though, have propelled him to the summit of the league's top scorers list.

More importantly though, the win moved United to top of the table, and strengthened their goal difference a lot. It took just 2 minutes for the Bulgarian forward to net his first, and another from him, and one for Park, had the title contenders 3-0 up at the break.

Rovers fans would have feared the worst when Berbatov completed his hat trick, and Nani added a fifth, within five minutes of the second half starting. Two more goals were added by Berbatov mid way through the half, before Chris Samba scored a consolation goal for the away side.

So Manchester United are two points clear ahead of Chelsea's match at Newcastle today, and considering this is the first time they have really turned up this season, that isn't bad going. If this is a sign that Ferguson's men are now finally in form, the title could well be heading back to the North west this season.

Berbatov is so hit and miss. There is no doubting his ability, as shown against Liverpool and yesterday. He just isn't consistent, don't expect five every week, but ten games without scoring isn't good!
