Bentley Bidding War
May 27th 2008 16:15
Blackburn star and England International David Bentley will not sign a contract extension to remain at Blackburn. At the moment Tottenham and Chelsea are both engaged in a bidding war for the mid-fielder. I hope a rising star like Bentley is smart enough to stay away from Chelsea, because he’s not a big enough name yet to crack the starting eleven, and he’ll end up in career limbo, like the frequent first team absences of Sidwell this past season. Why Sidwell left an, at the time, rising Reading squad with which he played almost every game, to sit on the bench, will always confuse me. More money now doesn’t matter if you can’t showcase your talent for career life after Chelsea.
Real Madrid are prepared to fight for Ronaldo this summer with a bid to offer up to 150million for the Manchester United mid-fielder. Being that this offer is touted in the media, and not behind closed doors, like clubs do most of the time, Ferguson must be growing increasingly angry that Madrid keep trying to lure his star boy away in the press. Giving more worry to the fact that Ronaldo at one point before the Champions League final admitted a desire to play in Spain. Manchester United are really going to have to break the bank to extend Ronaldo’s contract if they hope to hold onto the Portuguese international.
Considering Ronaldo has to be front runner for the FIFA player of the year award, and currently last years winner Kaka is the highest paid footballer in the world, how doesn’t Ronaldo deserve a better contract. He almost single-handedly won the League and the European championship for Manchester United. 42 goals in all competitions probably deserves a raise, especially considering the fact that Ronaldo isn’t a striker, that’s 42 goals from a mid-fielder. Pay the man and he’ll stay.
Avram Grant is set to take legal action after his firing from Chelsea. Apparently the Israeli was offered his old position for the club before being sacked as manager, which means there must be some sort of bad blood feud going on behind closed doors. If they start airing dirty laundry about Chelsea having unfavorable business tactics, it will make Chelsea’s race to acquire a manager all the more interesting.
