Benitez not sacked by Inter

December 20th 2010 19:17

Inter Milan manager Rafael Benitez, has hit back at claims that he has been sacked by the European champions. Meanwhile, club president Moratti has refused to comment on the Spaniard's future at the club.

Despite winning the Club World Championship last week, Benitez's future at the Italian giants has been subject to much speculation recently. Inter Milan have won the Serie A title the last five years, three under Mancini, and twice under Mourinho. Rafael Benitez took over last summer, inheriting a squad that had just won the treble.

However, they currently sit 13 points behind the Italian league leaders. To make it even more painful, the leaders are city rivals AC Milan. Inter also finished runners up to Tottenham in their Champions league group, so must face Bayern Munich in the first knockout round. With a transfer window and winter break round the corner, this may be the perfect time to get a new coach in.

But according to Benitez, he has not been fired ... yet.

I would give Benitez a little bit more time. 13 games back is a huge difference. AC and Inter are level talent wise, so 13 games is quite disgraceful. However, you can't just start firing coaches for the sole fact that you can- Ashley and Newcastle. But let's face it, Benitez just isn't doing a good job. You could point to Mourinho, and there is a gap between him and Benitez; but it isn't as far as the results between last year and this year. I say give Rafa time, he is a good manager. But make sure you make him know he needs to pour out results. Not winning the Serie A wouldn't be a tragedy but being this far back is.

my problem with Benitez, is that i'm not sure what chairmen see in him. At liverpool he wasted a lot of money, and in five years in charge, left them in a worse position then when he took over. Yes, he won the champions league, but that wasn't his squad.

Now at Inter, he is struggling with what is obviously a good squad, it is nearly the same personel wise as last year. but he always makes up excuses. I'd give him until the end of the season, but if they keep struggling like this, don't expect him to still be there next season

For someone that dislikes him more than me, you are being too generous. Likewise, Inter cannot afford to lose more ground by squandering their time with a manager that cannot get the job done- if that is indeed the case. If results don't improve by March, fire the man!

Don't know much about Benitez but i could easily see Inter beat Bayern.

But, i don't see Inter catching AC
