Baggies batter poor Toon

As a Newcastle United fan, the only positive to take from this afternoon's defeat at the Hawthorns, is that our injury time goal made the scoreline a little less emberassing. I can have no complaints. In the first half in particular, West Brom ran us ragged. After matching the Champions last week, the Midlands side who finished 2nd to us in the Championship last term, looked a class above us all afternoon.
After fifteen minutes, the home side had enjoyed an unprecedented 73% of possession. They eventually got the lead they deserved through a well taken goal from Tchoyi. With Odemwingie stood in front of Toon keeper Krul in an offside position, the goal did call into question once again, the definition of 'active player' in the offside rule. But I'm not going to clutch at straws, the goal was right to be given.
Marking his 500th Premier League appearance, Sol Campbell looked dodgy at the back all match long, as did most Newcastle players. Cheick Tiote is a real class midfielder, and once again was our only man to turn up! Andy Carroll, as always, kept battling too.
But Odemwingie continued his great start to life in the Premier League, taking two second half goals brilliantly. The Magpies improved after the break, but still couldn't really complain about being 3-0 down. Not good enough in attack. Not good enough in defence.
Peter Lovenkrands did grab a 92nd minute goal back, no more than a consolation. It finished 3-1 to West Brom, a thoroughly deserved three points, and I really can't see them being in any relegation danger this season. As for Newcastle, I still think we'll be safe. Today's match must be taken within context. Yes, we were shocking, but Coloccini, Williamson and Barton are still suspended, and Nolan injured. They have been four of our key players this season.
To add insult to injury (or vice versa), Danny Guthrie was stretchered off late on. However, given his performances so far this season, and especially today, I don't think it will be a big miss! Newcastle have to forget about this result, and move on. I just hope that there aren't any rash, panicking actions, as Hughton's job safety will no doubt again become an issue!
