Aston Villa Has Big Plans (LINK)

Aston Villa is set to become a big contender for next season. If they can hold on to Gareth Barry, they may also be acquiring Steve Sidwell from Chelsea, and David Bentley from Blackburn. That sort of positive change to the midfield could prove amazing for Villa, as one of their problems over the years hasn’t been controlling the ball against big clubs, but rather lasting the length of the season against the smaller ones. Villa can get off to an amazing start, then almost always run out of gas in the middle and towards the end of the season.
All they need now is a more reliable strike team up front. I think if they can get the £20million asking price from Liverpool for Barry, and can acquire David Bentley and Sidwell, then O’Neill should put that money into a better striker. I’m talking world class, like taking your Chelsea money, and breaking the bank a little more, to get to Berbatov before anybody else does. A striker like that, with people like Bentley and Sidwell in support, would hand Aston Villa the fifth spot over Everton and buy them contention for Champions League football.
In a world where buying a team is sometimes your only chance for success, Aston Villa already being armed with a good manager like Martin O’Neill, if they are unafraid to incur some debt, can be poised for success.
