An Issue on Orble

November 28th 2010 09:17
There is an issue for me on Orble, and I am sure it is affecting you guys as well. I am finding my votes down on my website from where they were two months ago. I am thinking that we can come up with a system where we all vote for eachother's posts and star nominations. This will make sure that everybody's hard work is rewarded. Regardless on if anyone second's this motion, I will still start to vote for others.

I know what you mean and I really can't understand why the slide in votes has happened? It seems strange to me that because of the way orble works, good quality posts aren't always rewarded with a good ranking, as votes don't come there way! So this sounds like a plan to me!

Yeah, that's why I am going to randomly go through posts and comment and vote on them. I used to get 30 votes per day, now I only get 20. I have found that posts on baseball and basketball have really been hit hard, especially baseball. Even football has taken a blow. Soccer posts are lessening as well, but not as bad as the others. I also find that some great posts aren't getting viewed at as star posts. In the 9 months I have blogged on Orble, I have only seen one star given.

Actually,
the best way around this problem, and after three years here, I too suffer from the system and do not get high traffic, nor dollars, in fact, I stilll have not been paid, since Adsense put it up to $150- before payment....not that I'm BITTER AND TWISTED ABOUT IT....welll, maybe a bit...

However, what everyone should do is comment on other people's blogs, make sure you are "logged in", as each time you visit a new blog, you have to log in again, (so annoying).

Anyhoo, then your comment will register as a ten point vote automatically, after log in, and then, and this is the payoff, those you take the time to visit and comment, will do the same on your blog.

If they don't return the favour, stop commenting on their blog!

It is just a matter of common courtesy.

One other thought; while leaving a comment, click on a few adverts on their site, which will boost their adsense pay!

I will now do the same, right here!

cheers to you Joe,

fog

Lets hope with a bit of help from each other, all our posts can start getting to recognition they deserve!

Thanks FOG for the clarification on why there's so much encouragement to write comments on posts - I have never had it explained so clearly, and now I understand some of the methods being used by some folk to bolster their votes and numbers etc.. The star system is very flawed I think - I got one once, but Orble have never paid me anything - my adsense (google) has after a long long time, but with the main focus on Orble ALWAYS film and usually Hollywood film - it's very unballanced as far as what is being actively promoted - film film film...

I'll try following the advice of commenting, but if people don't comment back it becomes a time wasting (and $ wasting) enterprise.

Hi David,
(and Joe and Matt),

yes, the popular blogs thang here.. at the moment it does look like film dominates, but, in the last month or so I have seen increasingly more sports oriented sites featuring in the lists.

The big imbalance comes from bloggers who have a large support/readership base. Only eight out of the top twenty are on film, but 50% of the top ten are film.

Also, these same top bloggers keep a consistant flow of posting on their sites.

Your blog works best if the title reflects what you write about (my infognito site was not a good idea for instance) and the title of your posts with the "advanced settings" info should reflect the key words, the subject of what you are posting about.

By the way, although I point out the way the system can be manipulated (and most likely is by some lucky enough to have lots of friends who click on adverts and vote), this does not happen for me.

Rarely do people click on my adverts, and only a few bother to vote logged in, to get the ten points. I have earned about $120- since 2007.

However, the aim of the game is not just at Orble, it is the world wide web inhabitants that we need to attract. Look at the list for Orble sites and Writers, that gives you an idea.

Anyhoo, oh, just get chatty with others whose writing you like, and develop a rapport with them, at least that helps your feeling of being in a community.

We had an excellent community here a few years back, lots of people commenting on each other's work etc, but then a few bad apples joined and by their bad behaviour ruined it for everyone, so I, as did a lot of the experienced bloggers here, just backed off.

It also is a bit like traffic, there are rush times, and slow times...

cheers

fog

Interesting to read that feedback mate! i think there has been an obvious pick up between 3 or 4 of us in recent days, a good community of commenting on each others posts building up, and the more people that join in, the better.

Some times I can't really think of a particularly constructive comment, but even just an appreciation of the post gets the ten voting points, and is a big help for all of us! After all, it isn't too difficult, and if the people return the favour, its well worth the few minutes it takes!

Yes I agree, it is really helpful to get some sort of feedback on specific things and some kind of context. I'm enjoying what I'm doing on my sites, so I do it, but building interaction with others, another part of the process that obviously has to develop. I think Matt's willingness to bring up thoughts and make positive constructive suggestions is a really good and welcome thing, thank you gentlemen.
